When Markell began
his amazing journey at
St. Jude, he never imagined walking the red carpet would be part of it.

In honor of Markell's journey and to the many children who will come from around the world on their own journeys, we'd like to share his story.

This is a story of celebration, hope and victory over one tough opponent – cancer.

Once his doctor discovered the bone cancer in Markell's knee, Markell and his family traveled to St. Jude – to embark on what they hoped was his lifesaving journey.

When the 2010 football season began, Markell was battling osteosarcoma. But thanks
to St. Jude and its supporters, Markell defeated cancer even before the playoffs. As part
of the FOX Sports pre-game show, Markell was invited to walk the red carpet and celebrate at Super Bowl® XLV.

It's a journey neither he nor his parents could have envisioned making during that lonely moment in 2009 when the doctors told them "your child has cancer."
